“Willie Auchterlonie, who in 1893 was the last home-based Scot to have won the Open Championship, has another claim to fame.  The St Andrean also designed the original nine hole Campsie course at Lennoxtown for the no expense spared fee of five guineas, and admiring his own work afterwards, he remarked that it had the makings of one of the best inland courses in Scotland”

With full acknowledgement to The Glasgow Herald and to the writer Douglas Lowe, article having appeared on Wednesday, April 30, 1997

On your first visit, on some holes you may notice many small mounds and hillocks that are not unlike links golf.  These were formed from old mine workings over a hundred years ago.  They form part of the charm that is Campsie Golf, an experience you will never forget, and one you will want to visit, again and again.

Various changes have taken place over the years, and was extended to 18 holes in 1982.  And further improvements are planned for the near future, including the lengthening of some holes.
